Bionic photodetector sees the color

According to reports, researchers at Rice University's laboratory have demonstrated through nanophotonics how to directly access design pixel imaging sensors through integrated optical amplifiers and color filters. Rice University researchers have created a CMOS-compatible device. The bionic color photodetector can respond directly to red, green and blue light in many people's eyes.
The new device researchers found in the creation of Rice's lab Nano, and in the magazine's online description of the advanced nature of the material. It uses silicon-based photodetectors and silicon microchips as the main technologies, complementary metal oxide semiconductors or CMOS aluminum gratings.
Conventional photodetectors convert light into electrical signals but do not have inherent color sensitivity. In order to capture color images, photodetector manufacturers must add color filters that can form red, green, and blue primary color components in a single scene. This color filter usually uses a color filter of a sheet dielectric or dye, and it is difficult to align the imaging sensor under exposed sunlight.
The Zhengcai photodetector uses a combination of engineering and plasma gratings, comb-like aluminum alloy structures in a row of parallel slits. Using electron beam evaporation, which is a common technique for CMOS processes, Zheng deposited a thin layer of aluminum on a silicon photodetector coupled with an ultra-thin oxide coating.
Color selection is performed by using the interference effect between the grating of the plasmons and the surface of the photodetector. By carefully adjusting the thickness of the oxide layer and the width and spacing of the slits, Zheng can preferentially guide different colors onto the silicon photodetector or reflect it back into the available space.
