The UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development report in this jointly drafted report that the increase in global biofuel production will further increase the prices of already-increasing world agricultural commodities and reduce their practicality.
According to the most conservative estimate, the world’s biofuel production will more than double in the next 10 years, agriculture will face, according to a report by the FAO-based Director-General of FAO, Jacques Diouf, at a Paris reception. The pressure will be further intensified.
Diouf said global ethanol production is expected to reach approximately 125 billion liters in 2017, which is twice the world's ethanol production in the last year.
According to the report, global biodiesel production is expected to increase from 11 billion litres at the end of 2007 to 24 billion liters by 2017.
