Cummins World's Second Largest R&D Center Opened in Wuhan


Reporter Zeng Yihui Wuhan Report Recently, the East Asia Research and Development Center established by Cummins in cooperation with Dongfeng was officially opened in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone. This is the first Sino-foreign joint venture professional R&D center in the Chinese engine industry. After completing the construction of the fourth phase of the project, the East Asia Research and Development Center will become the second largest R&D institution in the world behind Cummins, the technology center of the United States.

The East Asia Research and Development Center is the fourth joint venture between Cummins and Dongfeng. After the two parties established a joint venture, Dongfeng Cummins Engine Co., Ltd., Shanghai Fleetguard Filters Co., Ltd. and Xiangfan Fleetguard Exhaust System Co., Ltd. were jointly established.

In the past 20 years of cooperation between Dongfeng and Cummins, they have experienced several important stages. In 1986, Dongfeng and Cummins signed an agreement to produce Cummins B-Series engines; in 1996, they jointly produced C-Series engines; in October 2005, the two parties jointly developed new ones. A 13-liter fully electronically controlled heavy-duty diesel engine has reached an agreement. The start-up of the East Asia Research and Development Center will allow both parties to fully upgrade their cooperation in the field of technology research and development.

It is understood that the R & D center's market application direction includes engineering machinery, mining, shipbuilding, power generation equipment, railway engines and key components, in addition to traditional diesel power, it will also research and development including hybrid, natural gas? CNG, liquefied petroleum gas? LPG and alternative fuel engines such as biodiesel.

In addition, the East Asia R&D Center will share R&D resources and product series platforms with other Cummins R&D centers to achieve leapfrog development.
