The new method for the synthesis of cyclohexylcarboxylic acid by the hydrogenation of benzoic acid developed by the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was recently authorized by the national invention patent. In the invention, benzoic acid is placed in a supported transition metal ruthenium catalyst, supercritical carbon dioxide and cyclohexyl formic acid, and a ring-catalyzed reaction occurs in contact with hydrogen; after the reaction, cyclohexyl formic acid is used to extract it in supercritical carbon dioxide. The catalyst is separated from the product. The process has the characteristics of mild reaction conditions, clean reaction process, less organic solvent, high yield, and good product quality.
