Yangzi Petrochemical BASF Phase II project completed and put into operation

On January 10, Phase II of the US$1.4 billion investment by Yangzi Petrochemical-BASF was completed and put into operation on schedule, and a new expansion plan was announced.

The second phase of the Yamba project was started in September 2009. The two sides jointly invested 1.4 billion U.S. dollars to expand the ethylene production capacity to 740 thousand tons per year; meanwhile, the ethylene oxide, propionic acid, and propionaldehyde plants were expanded, and new ethylene glycol butyl ether was built. Devices, non-ionic surfactant devices, butadiene equipment, and alkanolamine combined devices have enabled Yamba's total product volume to reach 3 million tons/year.

At the same time, according to the memorandum of understanding signed by Sinopec and BASF in December 2010, both parties announced that they will further expand Yangzi Petrochemical-BASF Co., Ltd. The total investment for the new project is about 1 billion U.S. dollars. Among them, the construction of an annual output of 60,000 tons of superabsorbent resin equipment will begin in mid-2012, and plans to put into commercial operation in early 2014. A new production unit with an annual output of 160,000 tons of acrylic acid and a new set of butyl grease, as well as the expansion of the 2-propylheptanol plant.
